Recently, Lei Jun showcased the painting workshop and stamping workshop at Xiaomi's automotive super factory.
The Xiaomi SU7, once assembled with its white body, is transported to the painting workshop.
The SU7 undergoes a total of 8 coating layers, which include a galvanized layer, a film, electrophoresis, intermediate coating, two layers of paint, and two layers of clear varnish. Following the painting process, each car undergoes a random inspection.
Lei Jun pointed to a newly painted Xiaomi SU7 in Gulf Blue and said, "The mirror-like finish on this is exceptionally premium, isn't it?"
After finishing the painting area, the next stop is the stamping space. Lei Jun mentioned that this is the busiest workshop in the entire factory.
Xiaomi's automotive production facility manufactures all major body panels on-site, with one or a pair produced every 4 seconds. Steel and aluminum sheets undergo multiple cold stamping processes to quickly take shape.
After production, the body panels undergo manual inspection followed by blue light scanning, with approximately 12,000 inspection points ensuring comprehensive quality checks.
Notably, Lei Jun mentioned visiting numerous factories for research and learning, drawing inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz factory model. Engineers' offices are strategically located within the factory premises, allowing them to work directly on the production floor. This setup facilitates immediate problem identification and swift issue resolution.
