On March 22nd, the kickoff meeting and discussion of the execution and management plan for the "Exploration of Common Regulatory Elements and Genetic Resource Design for Important Agricultural Traits" project, which is part of the National Key R&D Program, was successfully held in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The project is led by the Institute of Agricultural Genomics of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, in collaboration with the Kunpeng Modern Agriculture Research Institute in Foshan, China Agricultural University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong Agricultural University, and Henan Agricultural University. During the kickoff meeting, Ruan Jue, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Agricultural Genomics of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that through the implementation of the project, innovative high-throughput identification technologies for universally applicable regulatory elements in agricultural plants and animals will be developed. The project aims to systematically explore the common regulatory elements and their collaborative networks that control high-yield, high-quality, disease-resistant, and stress-tolerant traits in pigs, chickens, rice, corn, and citrus. By thoroughly analyzing the molecular basis of complex traits, it will provide excellent new genetic resources for the breeding of major agricultural plants and animals in China. The National Key R&D Program is an important part of the central government's scientific and technological plans and reflects the active role of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in fulfilling its national strategic scientific and technological responsibilities.
