In order to further enhance the level and intensity of openness to the outside world, the National Key Laboratory of Innovative Drug Research (affiliated with the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences) has decided to implement open projects for external scholars. For the year 2024, the plan is to fund 8 projects, with each project receiving a proposed funding of 100,000 RMB and a research period of 1 year (May 2024 - April 2025).
I. Funding Directions
(1) Research on Innovative Technologies and Methods Integrate the latest knowledge and research results from basic disciplines such as chemistry, life sciences, mathematical sciences, and computer information sciences to develop and establish forward-looking new technologies, methods, and strategies for drug development, supporting the discovery and validation of original targets and the development of original candidate drugs.
(2) Discovery of New Mechanisms of Drug Action, New Biomarkers, and Original Targets Comprehensively utilize methods and technologies such as molecular biology, cell biology, structural biology, chemical biology, computational biology, and network pharmacology to discover original mechanisms of drug action, new biomarkers, and new targets.
(3) Discovery of Lead Compounds Based on Original Targets For major chronic diseases (such as digestive tract tumors, disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism, "intractable" neurological diseases like depression) and newly emerging viral infectious diseases posing a threat to public safety, based on new technologies and methods, target original targets and mechanisms to search for and discover lead compounds for drugs.
II. Basic Requirements for Applicants
Applicants should have a fixed job position with a senior professional title and must jointly apply with fixed members of this laboratory (the funds for open projects need to be used within the key laboratory and cannot be disbursed externally). Each internal collaborating research group is limited to one application per year. Applicants who have undertaken ongoing open projects that have not yet been completed cannot submit new applications for the current year. Encouragement is given for members of the Laboratory Academic Committee and members of the National Key Laboratory Alliance to apply.
III. Application Acceptance

After the review is completed without errors, submit the paper version of the application form (three copies, printed front and back, with at least one original copy, signed by the applicant and collaborative researchers from this laboratory, and stamped with the official seal of the applicant's unit) to the office of the National Key Laboratory.
