The National Field Scientific Observation Research Station is one of China's important bases for scientific and technological innovation. Conducting long-term, stable, and standardized scientific observations is the primary task of the National Field Scientific Observation Research Station, and it serves as the foundational work for obtaining high-quality, long-term continuous scientific data and conducting collaborative research. On April 28th, the workshop on promoting observational technology standards was held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. 6630b508e4b03b5da6d0e056.jpg The book launch and book gifting ceremony.

Huang Canhong, Deputy Director of the Department of Basic Research and Research Conditions of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Liu Xiaochen, Director of the National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform Center, Wang Ruidan, Deputy Director, Lu Fangjun, Deputy Director of the Business Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Shidong, Chief Inspector of the Science and Technology Department of the State Forestry Administration, Liao Xiaoyong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guan Yuhui, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Science and Technology of the Ministry of Water Resources, and Li Junsheng, Chief Engineer of the Comprehensive Survey Command Center of the China Geological Survey, as well as leaders from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other relevant departments attended the meeting.

Academician Chen Yiyu from the National Natural Science Foundation, Academician Tang Huajun from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Academician Kang Shaozhong from China Agricultural University, Academician Yu Guirui from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Liu Shirong from the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Professor Wang Yanfen from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Researcher Wang Kelin from the Subtropical Agriculture and Ecology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other experts and scholars attended the seminar. About 70 members of the writing group, representatives from the Beijing Ecosystem Field Station, and more than 110 representatives from field stations outside Beijing participated in the meeting via online video. The meeting was divided into two parts: the publication of the series and the standard promotion and application seminar, chaired by Academician Yu Guirui and Academician Chen Yiyu.

In June 2021, the Department of Basic Sciences of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform Center officially launched the research and compilation of the National Field Station Observation Technology Standard, and established the Expert Group on Field Scientific Observation Research Standards of the Science and Technology Platform Standard Committee, organizing experts and technical backbones from various fields of national field stations to carry out research and formulation of observation technology standards. Over the past two years, with the full cooperation of over a hundred frontline researchers from field stations, the first phase achievement of this work, "Volume 1: Ecological Systems and Biodiversity of the National Field Scientific Observation Research Station Observation Technology Standard," has been officially published and distributed by the Science Press, including 13 technical specifications covering forests, grasslands, and more.

Researcher He Honglin from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced the overall compilation work. Subsequently, the series launch ceremony took place, with Academician Chen Yiyu announcing the series release, and attending leaders and experts presenting the books to relevant industry departments, writing groups, and field station representatives.

During the standard promotion and application seminar, Associate Researcher Zhang Leiming from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported on the promotion work and data submission plan of the observation technology standards. While scholars fully acknowledged the plan, they also provided opinions and suggestions on various aspects such as the organizational form, resource guarantee, promotion methods, data management, and capacity enhancement of the observation technology standards. They further emphasized the importance of national field stations conducting long-term observations based on unified observation technology standards, accumulating first-hand scientific data as the basic task of national field stations, which must be adhered to without wavering.

The publication of the series of National Field Station Observation Technology Standards will not only promote the standardized construction and operational management of national field observation research stations but also effectively drive the long-term and stable development of national field station observation research work, achieving higher-level research results. This will better leverage the role of national field stations as scientific platforms, support the construction of China's ecological civilization and beautiful China, and contribute to realizing China's high-level scientific self-reliance and strength by providing fundamental support.
