Nankai University has recently achieved reaccreditation for the Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) courses from the Society of Actuaries (SOA) in North America, expanding the coverage of exemption qualifications for undergraduate and graduate programs.

This successful reaccreditation paves the way for Nankai University students to smoothly navigate the examinations administered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), marking a significant breakthrough in actuarial education at the university. With this accreditation, students at Nankai University who pass any two foundational exams can opt for designated courses and qualify for exemption from all three VEE courses by obtaining a grade of B- (or 75% on a percentile scale) or higher. Currently, there are 117 universities in mainland China that have applied for SOA-VEE course accreditation, with only 35% of them achieving exemption qualifications for all three courses.

Founded in 1889, the Society of Actuaries (SOA) is a highly representative and authoritative actuarial association internationally. The SOA actuarial qualification exam is one of the most influential actuarial exams globally.

The SOA-VEE certification courses, officially known as the Society of Actuaries-Validation by Educational Experience, are mandatory for both the ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) and CERA (Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst) series. The ASA series requires completion of three VEE courses: VEE Economics, VEE Accounting and Finance, and VEE Applied Statistics.

It is worth noting that actuarial science is a traditional advantage of Nankai University. As one of the earliest universities in China to establish the discipline of actuarial science, Nankai University pioneered actuarial education and profession in China, serving as the cradle for actuaries in the country. Since the establishment of the actuarial science discipline at Nankai University in 1987, it has adhered to the educational philosophy of "emphasizing both theory and practice, rooted in China, and embracing the world." After nearly 40 years of construction and development, it has developed a distinctive "Nankai (Actuarial) Model," achieving fruitful results in scientific research, talent cultivation, social services, and international exchanges, continuously supplying a large number of outstanding talents to financial, insurance, and other industries at home and abroad.
