Musk Speaks Out Against TikTok Ban Despite Potential Benefit to His Own Platform

Elon Musk, the owner of social platform X (Twitter), recently publicly voiced his opposition to the ban on TikTok (international version of Douyin).

"In my view, TikTok should not be banned in the United States, even though such a ban could benefit the X platform," Musk stated. "Doing so goes against the values of freedom of speech and expression, which are fundamental to what America stands for." He has been pushing for bans behind the scenes, seeking profits for his own applications."

Reportedly, following the stalemate in the Senate over the "sell or ban" bill regarding TikTok, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a similar bill today.

The newly passed bill stipulates that unless ByteDance sells its shares in TikTok within 270 days, TikTok will be banned in the United States.

This bill has also been incorporated into a comprehensive U.S. foreign aid package, requiring the Senate to expedite its review of the proposal compared to individual bills. s_ab5d4bb9e7304ad4aa547ea32f6f78e8.jpg
