April 17 news reports indicate that beyond the usual glass, plastic, and metal, some smartphones used to feature wood backs, like the Xiaomi Mi 4 and the first-generation OnePlus.
Wooden materials lend a natural, rustic charm to smartphones. While wooden backs are quite distinctive in appearance, their high cost and the complexity of production mean that most manufacturers have moved away from wood, opting instead for more common and popular materials like glass or plastic.
Fortunately, Motorola has reintroduced wooden smartphones to the market, with the moto Edge 50 Ultra being launched overseas today.
Apart from the regular version, the device also comes in a variant featuring real wood, which provides a warm feel and a unique texture, significantly enhancing its overall aesthetic appeal.
In terms of core specifications, the moto Edge 50 Ultra boasts a 6.7-inch curved display with a resolution of 2712x1220 and a refresh rate of 144Hz. It features a 50-megapixel front camera and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 chipset. With a battery capacity of 4500mAh, it supports 125W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
The device will first be available for purchase in Europe before expanding to markets in Asia, Latin America, and elsewhere. Priced at 999 euros, approximately 7700 Chinese yuan, the moto Edge 50 Ultra offers a premium smartphone experience with its unique wooden design.
