On April 17th, it was announced that Ralf Groene, a heavyweight figure in the field of hardware design at Microsoft and the head of the Surface design team, posted on LinkedIn to announce his retirement.
Groene stated, "I am pleased to share with you all that I have now retired."
Throughout his career at Microsoft, Groene played a crucial role as one of the key drivers behind the Microsoft Surface computer series.
The design philosophy has been evident since the debut of the first-generation Surface RT tablet in 2012 and has become a hallmark feature of the entire Surface device lineup.
In March of this year, Microsoft officially appointed Pavan Davuluri as the new head of the Windows and Surface team.
Last year, after Microsoft's "Surface guru" Panos Panay departed from the company, Microsoft split the Windows and Surface teams, each led by separate executives.
Now, the Windows and Surface teams are once again coming together, both under the leadership of Dhwani Rupani, as Panay "decided to explore new roles."
In March, Microsoft released the commercial versions of the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6. Consumer versions are expected to launch later this year.
