Meta-Owned Facebook and Instagram Experience Major Outage, Affecting Hundreds of Thousands Globally

On March 5th, local time, services including Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Threads, owned by Meta Platforms, experienced disruptions, impacting hundreds of thousands of users worldwide.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, over 500,000 users reported disruptions to Facebook, with approximately 77,000 Instagram users and 12,000 Messenger users also reporting service interruptions. Downdetector stated that the issues began shortly after 10 a.m. Eastern Time, with the number of reported disruptions decreasing over an hour later.

Apart from the United States, users in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and Mexico also reported service disruption problems. Meta's status page indicated that the company's advertising and developer platforms also experienced service disruptions.
