Mercedes-Benz Abandons Next-Gen CarPlay! Announces Accelerated Development of Exclusive Infotainment System

On May 3rd, the Chairman and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group, Ola Källenius, clearly stated in an interview that Mercedes-Benz is currently fully committed to developing its in-house infotainment system and has no plans to adopt the new version of Apple CarPlay.

Looking back at 2022, when Apple's next-generation CarPlay was released, many automakers such as Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln, and Audi all announced plans to integrate this system.

However, recent developments have taken a different turn. Not only Mercedes-Benz, but General Motors also announced in the second half of last year that new vehicle models from 2024 onwards will no longer support CarPlay.

Data indicates that the adoption rate of CarPlay in new vehicles has dropped sharply from over 50% during its peak to less than 30% currently, with a focus mainly on traditional fuel models that have not been updated for many years.

Media analysis suggests that the main reason why several automakers are abandoning the new CarPlay is due to Apple's attempt with the new version to take full control of the vehicle system, including the dashboard, and gain overall control.

This move has spurred major automakers to accelerate the development of their own infotainment systems. s_107cc09d5d734b6ea4c27557a12409fd.jpg
