Mazda has unveiled teaser images of its upcoming midsize SUV, the CX-80. Built on a rear-wheel-drive platform, this model will feature three rows of seating and is set for an official debut on April 18th.
The teaser images focus solely on the rear-end design of the Mazda CX-80. The taillight styling appears similar to the CX-60, but with larger dimensions, the side window area between the C-pillar and D-pillar is increased, indicating a potentially more spacious third-row seating area, enhancing practicality.
Additionally, the roof is equipped with a luggage rack, and it features wheel arches designed in the same color as the body. Chrome trim surrounds the windows, particularly near the D-pillar area, enhancing the overall sense of luxury in the vehicle.
While official images of the car have not been released, combining previously leaked patent images and spy shots from testing reveals that the exterior design of the Mazda CX-80 largely continues the design language of the CX-60.
The front end features a large grille with blacked-out accents and familial oversized headlights. The body length has been further extended, nearing 5 meters, with a wheelbase surpassing 3 meters, accommodating a three-row seating arrangement. At the rear, a concealed exhaust layout is implemented.
In other aspects, the Mazda CX-80's interior may feature a digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, 360-degree surround-view camera, and a heads-up display.
As for the powertrain, the Mazda CX-80 could offer a 3.3-liter inline-six diesel engine, a 3.3-liter inline-six gasoline engine, both paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Additionally, a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid version will be available.
