On April 17th, according to domestic media reports, a man was detained for causing a fire in a Shanghai residential area by illegally charging his electric bike using an extension cord. This incident has sparked widespread discussion and condemnation among netizens.

On the night of the incident, a fire broke out involving three electric bikes and the surrounding greenery in a residential area on Chenchuan Road, Baoshan District. The fire was promptly extinguished by the fire rescue department. The police quickly summoned Xu, the suspect, to the police station for questioning.

According to Xu's confession, despite repeated safety parking and charging awareness campaigns by community police officers, he still chose to drag an extension cord from his living room to the outdoors for "illegal charging," which resulted in the fire.

Fortunately, nearby residents promptly alerted authorities and extinguished the fire, preventing any casualties. However, the incident resulted in approximately 10,000 RMB worth of property damage.

In response to this fire caused by negligence, the police administratively detained Xu in accordance with the law.

Many netizens strongly condemned this incident, stating that such behavior not only shows irresponsibility towards oneself but also poses a threat to others' safety, and thus warrants severe punishment. s_220876c1601e40d88efd99e111482d71.jpg
