On March 18th, Qualcomm announced the launch of the third-generation Snapdragon 8s mobile platform, bringing the most popular features of the Snapdragon 8 series platform to more Android flagship smartphones, delivering an extraordinary top-tier mobile experience.
During the press conference, Lu Weibing of Xiaomi Group announced, "We are delighted to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies to introduce the first terminal equipped with the third-generation Snapdragon 8s. This new mobile platform enables us to leverage generative AI to provide users with top-notch personalized experiences." Other brands like Honor, iQOO, Realme, and Redmi, besides Xiaomi, will also adopt the third-generation Snapdragon 8s. The first terminal featuring this chipset is set to hit the market in March. It's reported that the third-generation Snapdragon 8s is built on TSMC's 4nm process, inheriting the same CPU architecture as the flagship platform of the third-generation Snapdragon 8, which includes 1 supercore clocked at up to 3.0GHz.
Additionally, there are 4 performance cores, clocked at up to 2.8GHz, and finally, 3 efficiency cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz. Not just that, the third-generation Snapdragon 8s inherits the same GPU architecture as the second-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship platform, delivering outstanding gaming efficiency performance. In the realm of AI, the key features of this brand-new flagship platform include robust on-device generative AI capabilities, always-aware ISP, hyper-immersive mobile gaming experience, groundbreaking connectivity, and lossless high-definition audio.
This platform supports a wide range of AI models, including popular ones like Baichuan-7B, Gemini Nano, Llama 2, and the intelligent ChatGLM language model. In terms of communication, the third-generation Snapdragon 8s integrates the Snapdragon X70 5G modem, supporting 3GPP 5G Release 17 features. In terms of imaging, the third-generation Snapdragon 8s integrates an 18-bit triple Image Signal Processor (ISP), supporting real-time semantic segmentation for photos and videos. It also supports low-light shooting and integrates AI-assisted imaging features such as automatic exposure, autofocus, and automatic face detection, among others. Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile Business at Qualcomm Technologies, stated that the third-generation Snapdragon 8 series, with features like on-device AI and advanced imaging capabilities, is aimed at enhancing user experience and boosting creativity and productivity in everyday life.
