On May 11th, it was reported by national media that Lenovo and Motorola's cellular network devices (including smartphones, tablets, etc.) are facing a comprehensive ban in Germany due to 4/5G patent litigation.
The report mentioned that the attack on Lenovo was initiated by the American technology company InterDigital, which does not have a good reputation in the industry and is even referred to as a patent troll.
This is not the first time two companies have ended up in court over patents. Last year, the UK High Court ruled that InterDigital's patent licensing fees should not exceed $0.175 per device.
In the current case, the focus of the lawsuit between Lenovo and Motorola against InterDigital remains on the FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) terms in patent licensing. InterDigital, however, continues to assert its compliance with these principles.
Lenovo and Motorola, on the other hand, disagree and can still challenge the injunction through the appeals process. Importantly, there is no specific definition of what constitutes FRAND principles within the EU, leaving room for interpretation.
Motorola Germany's official website currently only has accessories category.
