On April 23, Lei Jun shared some responses to questions from investors during a conference on his personal WeChat account.
When asked about Xiaomi's future product planning for its automotive sector, particularly whether an SUV is in the pipeline, Lei Jun responded:
"One of the reasons for the successful launch of SU7, I believe, is secrecy. Sorry, but I really can't disclose any further details at the moment."
However, Lei Jun did express confidence in SU7, stating, "SU7 is our first car, and it has achieved a remarkably high level. I believe future cars will see significant improvements."
Lei Jun also emphasized that the initial success of Xiaomi's SU7 demonstrates the sizable market for pure electric sedans, indicating that while the market may have been small in the past, it was simply lacking viable contenders.
In the traditional automotive industry, the market demand for SUVs versus sedans is typically 1:1. Lei Jun believes that in the electric vehicle sector, sedans will undoubtedly dominate the market demand.
