On April 19th, Sony announced that it will hold an Xperia event on May 17th. This time, Sony has only invited 100 people to the event, but there will be a live broadcast on site.
Considering that Sony launched the Xperia 1 V in May last year, this May event will see the unveiling of the Xperia 1 VI.
Based on the leaked renders, the Xperia 1 VI's most significant change is abandoning the traditional 4K fisheye screen solution in favor of a 2K screen, with a screen aspect ratio adjusted to 19.5:9, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Despite the screen size remaining at 6.5 inches, due to the aspect ratio adjustment, the Xperia 1 VI's body is wider, reaching 74.5mm, an increase of 3.5mm compared to the previous generation. The front still adopts a design style with no notches or punch holes.
The Xperia 1 VI will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 mobile platform as its core processor and will come equipped with a triple rear camera setup. It retains the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.
It's worth noting that there were previous reports suggesting Sony's complete withdrawal from the mainland Chinese market, which were later officially denied.
Sony stated that various Sony businesses, including the mobile division, are operating steadily in China. China remains one of Sony's most important markets, and we are optimistic about our future development there.
Currently, Sony's online store in China still sells multiple models, including the Xperia 1 V, so the Xperia 1 VI will also be available for sale in the domestic market.
