Prior to tonight's NBA playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers posted on Instagram a message showcasing superstar LeBron James arriving at the Denver arena with an unreleased version of the Beats Pill speaker, a brand under Apple Inc.
The original Beats Pill was a wireless Bluetooth speaker introduced before Apple acquired Beats Electronics in 2012. It underwent several updates in its initial years, with the final redesign featuring a Lightning port introduced by Apple in 2015, called the Pill+.
The Pill+ remained on the market in this form for several years until quietly discontinued in early 2022.
From today's video content, it seems the Pill is poised for a comeback, as the speaker in James's hands prominently displays the Beats logo and includes a lanyard attachment not present in previous versions.
Given the direction of Apple's product lineup, a USB-C port seems likely for charging. Considering it's been almost 9 years since the launch of the previous Pill+, Bluetooth and other technologies have advanced significantly, suggesting substantial improvements in the upcoming version. However, specific details about this speaker, including its release date, remain unknown.
