Right now, Elon Musk must be over the moon because SpaceX's mega rocket, Starship, just aced its third test flight.
At 21:29 Beijing time, the Starship successfully completed the separation of its first and second stages, just four minutes after liftoff.
About 11 minutes into the flight, the super-heavy booster did its job, and Starship began the process of opening and then closing its hatch, which was expected to take around 12 minutes.
The test flight is still smoothly underway, having reached orbital velocity.
Musk retweeted SpaceX's tweet, saying, "The Starship rocket weighs about 5000 tons, making it the biggest flying machine in history."
According to SpaceX's schedule, if everything goes smoothly, completing the entire process should take about 64 minutes.
It's reported that the Starship has undergone two test flights before, both of which ended in failure.
The first one took place in April 2023. Although it successfully ignited and took off, it lost control and flipped just 4 minutes into the flight, ultimately exploding and breaking apart.
The second attempt was in November of last year, when, about 15 minutes after launch, the Starship lost contact with mission control and was subsequently forced to initiate its self-destruct system.
