On May 10th, according to official information from GAC Toyota, the 2024 Highlander will be officially launched in June. This vehicle is built on the TNGA architecture and was once the best-selling joint venture mid-size SUV, requiring a premium to acquire at one point. However, it now comes with considerable discounts. For reference, the 2023 model has a suggested retail price of 282,800 to 299,800 yuan.
Due to the annual redesign, the expected 2024 model of the Highlander will continue with the previous design, featuring a split-type front grille with a smoked black mesh, paired with 20-inch wheels. The dimensions remain unchanged at 496519301750mm (lengthwidthheight) with a wheelbase of 2850mm. The focus of this upgrade is on the interior cabin.
It is understood that the new car is equipped with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel and 8-inch/12.3-inch central control screen. It comes standard with front row USB audio interface, dual USB charging ports, in-car Bluetooth, supports HiCar, CarPlay, Carlife smartphone connectivity, supports remote control of lighting, horn, and remote control door functions via mobile phone. Additionally, it also features new NAPPA leather seats to enhance seating comfort.

In terms of powertrain, the vehicle is equipped with a 2.5L hybrid system across the board, with the engine delivering a maximum power of 141 kW and peak torque of 238 N·m, paired with an E-CVT gearbox. The two-wheel-drive version features a 134 kW drive motor, while the four-wheel-drive version adds a 40 kW rear motor on this basis, resulting in a combined output power of 183 kW.
Facing the siege of many domestic competitors in the 300,000 yuan price range, the Highlander is no longer what it used to be. When competing with strong rivals such as the Venza M7 and the Ideal L8, it is easy to fall behind. Perhaps with the launch of this new model, there may be some pleasant surprises in terms of pricing.
