Japan Declares Fukushima Nuclear Contaminated Water Safe for Fifth Round of Ocean Discharge: Set to Commence on April 19

On April 17, Tokyo Electric Power Company announced the initiation of the fifth round of ocean discharge of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water, marking the first discharge of the fiscal year 2024.

According to the latest data, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant continues to generate new nuclear contaminated water, resulting in a mere 19,000-ton reduction in the water stockpile compared to before the previous discharge, accounting for only 1% of the total volume.

Japan's plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the ocean is projected to last for at least 30 years; however, the crucial equipment for treating the contaminated water, the "multi-nuclide removal facility," has already shown defects.

As a result of Japan's Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge, an increasing number of South Koreans are reluctant to purchase water products from Japan.

Reportedly, elementary and middle schools in South Korea have banned the consumption of seafood, seen as a response to Japan's discharge of nuclear contaminated water.

Regarding the ocean discharge, Tokyo Electric Power Company asserts that the discharged water is safe. But do you believe it? s_529f59da9018424cba26eb74fd7b5cdf.jpg
