On May 3rd, the official list of the top 10 cities in terms of GDP in mainland China for the first quarter of this year was released, with Shanghai and Beijing firmly holding the top two positions.

The top 10 cities by GDP in the first quarter are as follows: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Nanjing.

Compared to the top 10 cities by GDP in 2023, the list for the first quarter of this year remains largely unchanged, with Nanjing ranking tenth with a GDP of 4359.56 billion yuan, slightly higher than the 11th-ranked Ningbo (3992.2 billion yuan) and the 12th-ranked Tianjin (3890.08 billion yuan).

Shenzhen has long adhered to the strategy of "industrializing the city" and making manufacturing the focus. In 2022, it won the championship for both the added value of large-scale industries and the total industrial output value in the country for the first time. In 2023, it successfully defended its titles, firmly establishing itself as the "top industrial city."

In the first quarter, Beijing saw an economic growth rate of 6.0%, with the new energy vehicle industry growing by 2.6 times. NIO and Xiaomi collectively contributed billions of yuan in industrial output value.

Furthermore, in the first quarter, Suzhou emerged as the city among the top 10 that was most willing to "spend money," with the city's total retail sales of consumer goods reaching 249.11 billion yuan, a 10.6% increase, surpassing the national average by 5.9 percentage points. s_7087cb82331b4107bec3f260db682c73.jpg
