iPad Goes Green: Apple Adjusts iPad Packaging Strategy by Removing Randomly Included Chargers

Sun, May 12 2024 08:17 PM EST

Following the footsteps of the iPhone, Apple has now also started excluding chargers randomly included with iPads. It is reported that when ordering the new iPad in regions like the EU and the UK, Apple's official website indicates that chargers will no longer be included randomly.

This move has sparked widespread attention among consumers. This marks the first time Apple has made such an adjustment to its tablet products, even though chargers have been absent from iPhone packaging for years.

Apple previously stated that this change aims to reduce waste. Many iPhone users already have their own chargers, and repeatedly giving out chargers leads to resource wastage. Furthermore, this practice is also beneficial for the environment, reducing the energy and resources needed to produce new chargers.

For consumers, they now have to purchase chargers separately, which may mean seeking more reliable third-party suppliers. However, considering Apple's strict standards for charger quality, consumers need not worry excessively about charger compatibility issues.

Nevertheless, this change undoubtedly sends a negative signal to non-Apple ecosystem users, indicating that these consumers, after paying the high price for the new iPad, will need to buy Apple chargers separately. Moreover, we cannot rule out the possibility of applying this strategy to other product lines in the future, such as the Mac series.
