Apple released the iOS 17.5 Developer Preview Beta 2 early today.
Apple has now added the functionality to download and install apps directly from web pages in iOS 17.5, allowing developers to offer apps for download on their websites.
Starting from the second beta version, the application can be downloaded from the European Union's website.
Similar to the third-party app market added on iOS 17.4, this feature is limited to iPhones and can only be used within the European Union.
However, Apple also has strict requirements. Developers need to be members of the Apple Developer Program for two consecutive years or longer, and their web apps must have been installed over 1 million times in the previous year on iOS in order to provide web app downloads.
In addition, while bypassing the App Store saves developers from hefty Apple commission fees, Apple still imposes charges.
Apple mandates that, within the past 12 months, an annual fee of €0.5 (approximately ¥3.8 CNY) per app installed surpassing 1 million is required for core technologies.
Non-profit organizations, accredited educational institutions, and governmental entities are exempt from this fee.
