Intel Introduces New Socket LGA1851 This Year!

On April 12th, Intel unveiled its latest processor socket, the LGA1851, alongside the new Core Ultra processors codenamed Meteor Lake-PS. However, these chips aren't intended for the consumer market; instead, they target embedded and edge computing applications.

Initially, Intel had planned a desktop version of the Meteor Lake processor lineup with the LGA1851 socket. Unfortunately, due to underwhelming performance, these chips found their niche primarily in thin and light laptops.

iBASE showcased a motherboard designed for embedded Core Ultra processors, giving us a glimpse of the LGA1851 socket. Interestingly, its overall dimensions are identical to the LGA1700 socket used in 12th, 13th, and 14th generation Core processors, but with denser pin arrangements. s_e0e3e85574294dbebd8d3c86266593e2.jpg It's interesting that iBASE has labeled the processor as the 14th Gen Core Ultra, indicating that Intel did indeed plan to initially brand Meteor Lake as the 14th Gen Core, but plans changed.

Intel is set to release the next-generation Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake later this year, with the latter being exclusively for ultra-low-power mobile versions, while the former finally gets a desktop version with the LGA1851 interface.

The question remains, though: how many generations of products will this interface support? s_8333b4f6c4f8493f99d77b7b75ee586b.jpg
