Intel Confirms US Strikes Again on Huawei: Huawei Can No Longer Use Intel and Qualcomm Chips

On May 10th, Intel's regulatory filing today confirmed that the license to export chips to Huawei has been revoked.

In this report, Intel lowered its revenue forecast for the quarter, citing the recent revocation of their license to export chips to Huawei by the US. However, they still expect annual revenue and profits to grow, despite the downward revision in revenue forecast.

According to previous reports in the US media, the US has further tightened export restrictions on Huawei by revoking semiconductor licenses from Qualcomm and Intel.

While this move may not directly impact chip supplies for Huawei smartphones and laptops, Huawei has been prepared in advance. For instance, they have already abandoned Qualcomm for their smartphone CPUs.

Even before the formal revocation of export licenses, Qualcomm's CFO had already indicated earlier this month that they do not expect chip sales revenue from Huawei next year, as Huawei no longer needs to purchase 4G chips from Qualcomm.

Furthermore, Huawei has been focusing on its Kirin PC processors, such as mass-producing a chip using the Taishan V130 architecture, with its multi-core performance approaching that of the M3.

Leaks suggest that besides the multi-core performance nearing that of the M3, this unnamed Huawei SoC also features a Mali-920 graphics processor, with performance comparable to Apple's M2 GPU. s_c4c514295166422bb65f832e938ac6b7.jpg
