Inauguration of Provincial Key Laboratory on Urban-Rural Public Safety and Smart Governance

On March 14th, the Seminar on Promoting Coordinated Development of Urban and Rural Areas through the Implementation of the "Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Initiative" and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Provincial Key Laboratory on Urban-Rural Public Safety and Smart Governance (hereinafter referred to as the Laboratory) were held at South China Agricultural University. During his address, Li Fengliang, the Party Secretary of South China Agricultural University, expressed gratitude for the generous support from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences. He announced the successful approval of the provincial key laboratory for "Urban-Rural Public Safety and Smart Governance" under the Guangdong Philosophy and Social Science Planning Major Project. The university is committed to strategic planning at a high level and construction with high standards. They will gather experts and scholars in relevant fields, utilize cutting-edge technologies in artificial intelligence and digital governance, actively explore innovative practices in urban-rural public safety governance, and refine the "Guangdong Experience" and "Guangdong Model" in urban-rural public safety smart governance. Their aim is to establish a brand for the laboratory as a "New Humanities and Social Sciences" experimental laboratory in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and to create a research base for computational social science, providing support for the coordinated and high-quality development of urban and rural areas in Guangdong Province.

Zhang Zhigan, the Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Social Sciences, remarked that in recent years, the federation has actively explored the establishment of 16 provincial key laboratories in philosophy and social sciences, in collaboration with some universities including South China Agricultural University, leading the way in implementing interdisciplinary integration of disciplines. Their goal is to innovate the research paths, methods, and paradigms of humanities and social sciences, guiding the development of social science towards high quality. He emphasized the significance and academic value of hosting this seminar and establishing a provincial key laboratory at South China Agricultural University. He hoped that the university would adhere to the strategic guidance of national major demands, innovation driven by reform and opening up, and the core value of people's happiness and well-being, to ensure the steady and far-reaching development of the key laboratory.

At the seminar, Xiao Bin, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University, Li Huiwu, a counselor of the Guangdong Provincial Government and former Chief Inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Government Development Research Center, and Wen Hong, the Vice Dean of the Graduate School of South China University of Technology and Director of the Research Center for Social Governance, delivered keynote speeches on "The Two Sets of Relationships in Local/Grassroots/Urban-Rural Social Governance", "New Explorations in the Coordinated Development of Urban and Rural Areas in Guangdong Region", and "Promoting the Modernization of Emergency Management in Super-Large Cities", respectively. Additionally, experts and scholars from Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, Guangzhou University, the Guangdong Internet Plus Big Data Development Research Center, and the School of Public Administration at South China Agricultural University exchanged views and opinions during the roundtable forum.
