The latest edition (March 18th - March 24th) of "Pure Electric MPV Terminal Sales Ranking" has been released by Electric Knowledge House. According to the list, the Ideal MEGA (specifications | image) clinched the top spot in the weekly sales of pure electric MPVs with a remarkable 1031 units sold. Following closely behind is the Xiaopeng X9, ranking second. Meanwhile, the previous star models, JiKe 009 and Tencent D9 EV, recorded sales of 85 units and 70 units respectively, securing the seventh and eighth positions on the list.
It's reported that the Ideal MEGA started delivery on March 11th, and in the past two weeks, sales have exceeded 2,100 units. With an average of 1,000 units per week, the monthly sales of Ideal MEGA are expected to surpass 4,000 units. This is quite impressive for a domestically produced all-electric MPV priced at 559,800 CNY. However, despite this, the sales of Ideal MEGA still fall short of Ideal Auto's previous estimations. Ideal Auto CEO Li Xiang once expressed confidence that MEGA would become the top-selling product with over 500,000 units sold, regardless of energy form or vehicle type.
However, since its release, Ideal MEGA has been embroiled in controversy. Apart from being criticized for its high price, the second point of contention since its unveiling has been its exterior design... To put it nicely, it's unique, but to some netizens, it's considered ugly, and some even criticized its design as somewhat ominous. Subsequently, Ideal Auto's stock price has plummeted for several consecutive days.
On March 21st at noon, Li Xiang issued a company-wide memo, in which he reviewed the issues that Ideal Auto encountered in March and proposed solutions. Li Xiang candidly admitted in the memo: "Ideal MEGA has pacing issues, and there is excessive emphasis on sales figures company-wide." "Our pursuit of desires has turned us into people we dislike."
On the afternoon of March 21st, Ideal Auto announced that due to lower-than-expected sales orders, the company now anticipates delivering 76,000 to 78,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, down from the previous estimate of 100,000 to 103,000 vehicles, representing a 24% reduction.
