Huawei Ranks Among Top Five Globally in R&D Expenditure and Holds First Place in Global Patent Applications

On March 14th, at Huawei's 2024 Partner Summit, Mr. Wang Tao, Executive Director of Huawei, delivered a keynote speech revealing the company's R&D expenditure for the year 2023.

Mr. Wang stated that Huawei's total R&D expenditure in 2023 ranked among the top five globally.

It was noted that Huawei has consistently maintained strong investment in research and development, leveraging technological innovation to enhance the competitiveness of its products and solutions. From 2021 to 2023, the proportion of R&D investment in these three years exceeded 20% of the company's revenue.

At the end of last year, the "2023 Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard" released by the European Union also indicated that Huawei's R&D expenditure ranked fifth globally.

Naturally preceding Huawei are renowned companies such as Alphabet (Google's parent company), Meta (Facebook's parent company), Microsoft, and Apple.

According to Huawei's financial report data, the company's R&D expenditure reached 161.5 billion CNY in 2022, accounting for 25.1% of the annual revenue, with cumulative R&D expenses exceeding 977.3 billion CNY over the past decade.
