Yu Chengdong appointed as Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG)!
On May 10th, Huawei's official website updated its management information. As of now, Yu Chengdong serves as Executive Director of Huawei, Chairman of the Consumer BG, Chairman of the Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, and Director of the Intelligent Terminals and Intelligent Automotive Components IRB. In addition, Yu Chengdong's Weibo profile has been updated from CEO of the Consumer BG to Chairman of the Consumer BG.
Public records show that Yu Chengdong was born in 1969, graduated with a bachelor's degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and a master's degree from Tsinghua University. He joined Huawei in 1993 and has held various positions such as 3G Product Director, Vice President of Wireless Product Marketing, President of Wireless Product Line, President of the European Region, and President of Strategy and Marketing. In 2011, Yu Chengdong took over Huawei's consumer business. In 2010, Huawei sold only 3 million phones, less than one-tenth of Apple's global sales. By 2019, Huawei's smartphone shipments reached around 240 million units, surpassing Apple.
In his 2024 New Year message, Yu Chengdong stated, "The Consumer BG has always been a fearless and innovative force. Over the past decade, we have led in many industry firsts, introduced numerous leading products and technologies. In the next decade, we will continue to adhere to a strategy of smart full-scene, dare to choose, focus on industry, product, and features, and create competitive, ultimate user experiences for consumers. We will continue to increase R&D investment, break through from fundamental technology, vertically integrate through software and hardware, core cloud, build and apply AI capabilities, based on a unified foundation, focusing on personal intelligence, office intelligence, travel intelligence, and home intelligence, using king products and ultimate scene experiences to serve users."
