On March 25th, it was reported by domestic media that Xu Wenwei, the founding figure of Huawei chips and former president of HiSilicon, announced his official retirement on his social media account.
In his social media post, Xu Wenwei expressed, "Familiar paths, long-lasting memories! Over 33 years, I have witnessed the development and growth of a great enterprise. Gratitude, appreciation, and best wishes."
It is reported that the chip developed by his team, Huawei's first chip, the C&C08 program-controlled switch, once outperformed numerous foreign switch manufacturers, earning Huawei its initial success.
Xu Wenwei, who joined Huawei in 1991, led the development of several significant products, including the first-generation C&C08 digital program-controlled exchange, the first ASIC chip, the first GSM system, and the first core switch for cloud data centers.
In 2004, HiSilicon Semiconductor was formally established, with Xu Wenwei serving as its president. Two years later, he made the decision for HiSilicon to embark on the development of 3G data card chips.
The C&C08 program-controlled switch was once a cash cow for Huawei for quite a while.
