On March 27th, the donation ceremony for the "Wen Kui Fund" was held at the Chengguan Campus of Lanzhou University. The children of the renowned chemist Mr. Huang Wenkui, Huang Zhishen, Huang Zhilan, and Huang Zhihan, donated 6 million US dollars to the Lanzhou University Education Development Foundation, supporting the development of chemistry and related interdisciplinary disciplines at the university. Huang Zhihan, son of Mr. Huang Wenkui, along with his daughter-in-law Da Xiaoyu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Lanzhou University Yan Chunhua, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Lanzhou University Tu Yongqiang, and Vice President of Lanzhou University and Executive Vice Chairman of the Education Development Foundation Cao Hong attended the donation ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Qie Jinbo, Director of the Alumni Office.
Yan Chunhua expressed gratitude and respect for Mr. Huang Zhihan and his relatives' generous act, and affectionately recalled the relationship with Professor Huang Wenkui. He said that Mr. Huang Wenkui was rigorous in scholarship and dedicated to scientific research. He hoped that younger researchers, especially young faculty and students, would inherit Professor Huang Wenkui's spirit of pursuing innovation in everything and every day, and steadfastly strive to achieve scientific research innovation with far-sightedness. At the same time, he called for further harnessing the support role of the "Wen Kui Fund" in the development of the university's cause, rallying collective efforts, and learning from Professor Huang Wenkui's noble life ideals and selfless dedication spirit in the process of earnestly implementing fund projects, keeping the light of science shining and revitalizing the spirit of the professor.
It is reported that the "Wen Kui Fund" project, jointly discussed and designed by the Lanzhou University Education Development Foundation, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the State Key Laboratory of Functional Organic Molecules, in accordance with the wishes of the donor and in consultation with Mr. Huang's family members, includes four aspects of support or reward projects: establishment of the Wen Kui Pilot Fund, Wen Kui Research Award (individual award/team award), Wen Kui Exchange and Learning Program, and support for the Cultivation and Memory Engineering Project. This will contribute to the talent cultivation and scientific and technological innovation linkage development of Lanzhou University, promote disciplinary cross-integration, achieve more original breakthroughs in chemistry and related disciplines, and achieve greater success.
