As a pioneer in innovative solutions for massive data storage, Seagate's Mozaic 3+ platform emerges with years of research and development investment. Equipped with Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology, this platform achieves an unprecedented single-disc areal density of over 3TB. Mozaic 3+ represents a blend of the world's most sophisticated nanoscale recording technology and breakthroughs in material science, embodying both the present and the future. With Mozaic 3+, data center operators can store more data in less space, reduce rack count, lower energy consumption, decrease footprint, and significantly optimize the overall cost of ownership.

The emergence of any new technology often sparks discussions, controversies, and even skepticism. As a newcomer in storage innovation, discussions surrounding Mozaic 3+ mainly focus on its reliability, stability, and readiness.

Since 2016, Seagate has conducted real-world simulation tests and rigorous validations across all aspects of Mozaic 3+, enhancing the maturity of key components. Over the past two years, reliability has been elevated to the same level as traditional PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording) drives. Here are the specifics:

Outstanding Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)

Mozaic 3+ hard drives boast a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 2.5 million hours, equivalent to Seagate's current enterprise-grade Exos drives. Mozaic 3+ adheres to the same quality assurance standards.

Supra-Normal Reliability

Thousands of Mozaic 3+ read/write heads tested have shown the ability to transfer data for over 6000 hours, equivalent to transmitting 3.2 PB of data per head. Test results also demonstrate that the data transfer volume is over 20 times that of regular near-line drives.

Groundbreaking Reliability in New Components

Over 95% of the technology in Seagate Mozaic 3+ drives aligns with the existing flagship products, ensuring compliance with Seagate's HDD standards. In addition to reliable components, customers benefit from novel, validated engineering breakthroughs such as iron platinum and nano-particle media.

Seamless Transition, Exceptional Results

The transition from traditional PMR to HAMR is seamless. Seagate applies PMR testing procedures to HAMR and supplements HAMR with specific tests. Mozaic 3+ drives are backward compatible with the latest PMR drives, enabling plug-and-play functionality without changes to form factor, enterprise specifications, or warranties. The differentiating factor lies in the significantly reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of Mozaic 3+ solutions.

Extended HDD Lifespan

Rigorous field application pressure tests have confirmed a head lifespan of over 7 years, surpassing the typical lifespan of current PMR drives and the expectations of most customers. Many customers anticipate a typical lifespan of four to five years for current PMR drives (measured in average read/write cycles during this period), while internal tests demonstrate that Seagate's Mozaic 3+ drives based on HAMR have a longer lifespan.

Over 500,000 Iterations of Validation and Testing

Seagate has conducted over 500,000 tests for Mozaic 3+, collaborating with customers and partners worldwide to gather invaluable feedback on this solution.

Seagate has invested over $2 billion in developing this reliable product integrating HAMR and establishing a robust, reliable integrated supply chain. Seagate's engineers not only bring industry-leading technological innovations to products and services but also ensure full compatibility, surpass reliability standards, possess environmental sustainability, and achieve customer satisfaction.

Sun Dan, Senior Vice President of Seagate Technology and President of Seagate China, stated: "As global demand for data storage continues to soar, we have spent decades actively investing time and resources to help enterprises and data centers efficiently, reliably, and sustainably expand massive storage capacity through the Mozaic 3+ platform, laying a solid and reliable infrastructure for the development of the data circle."
