April 7th - Google is rolling out a new feature for Android users aimed at identifying unknown phone numbers. Simultaneously, there are expectations for the integration of Google's artificial intelligence, Gemini, to bring its email summary feature to the Gmail app on Android phones in the near future.

AssembleDebug, a user on social media platform X, made an intriguing discovery within the beta version of Google's official phone app, Google Phone. A new "Lookup" button has been added, allowing users to access Google search results directly from the recent calls interface, aiding in tracking down the origins of unknown calls without the need for manual copy-pasting. ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcms-bucket.ws.126.net%2F2024%2F0407%2F2b51fef5j00sbjq460040c000u001uoc.jpg&thumbnail=660x2147483647&quality=80&type=jpg Google Phone, although a standard app for Google Pixel phones, is also available for download and use by users of other Android devices. The new "Lookup" button is placed alongside options like "Block" and "History" in the recent call log section within the Google Phone app. Given the current prevalence of receiving frequent unknown calls and spam, this feature is particularly necessary.

While manually copying unknown numbers to Google search might not seem too cumbersome, it's a common enough occurrence that this new "Lookup" feature in Google Phone undoubtedly saves users from the repetitive copy-paste dance on their phones.

AssembleDebug also noticed that Google is adding the Gemini email summary feature to the Android version of the Gmail app. This feature appears as a button below the email subject line, which, when clicked, reveals a summary of the content. While the button currently doesn't serve any practical purpose, a new Gemini option has been added to the three-dot menu in the Gmail app.

In fact, once logged into a Google Workspace account, the Android version of the Gemini app can provide email summaries to users. Clearly, enabling the Gemini feature directly within Gmail will offer a better user experience.
