On April 19, Thursday, Alphabet's Google announced the integration of various teams responsible for building artificial intelligence models within its Research and DeepMind departments, marking the latest move in Google's development of its AI product portfolio.

In a recent blog post, Google announced its intention to strengthen the development of secure AI further. The company will relocate the dedicated "Responsible AI" team from the Research department to the DeepMind department. This move aims to facilitate closer collaboration between this team and the work of constructing and expanding artificial intelligence models.

This initiative comes at a time when global concerns about the safety of artificial intelligence are escalating, with growing demands for regulatory oversight of AI technology.

The DeepMind team has assisted in developing Google's cutting-edge AI model, Gemini, capable of handling various forms of information, including video, audio, and text, which was deployed at the end of last year.

While the launch of Gemini had a positive impact on Alphabet's stock price, criticism arose due to inaccuracies in some historical image descriptions, prompting Google to suspend Gemini's image generation functionality.

A year ago, Google merged its research departments Google Brain and DeepMind, focusing on AI development to catch up with competitors like Microsoft. Microsoft is a partner of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT and Sora.

Moreover, last month, Google appointed Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind, as the head of the newly formed consumer AI department.

Despite Google's increasing investment in AI and automation, the company has implemented a series of layoffs and cost-cutting measures before integrating its AI teams.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated last year that the company plans to release a series of AI models by 2024.
