Global PC Report: Lenovo Up by 7.8%, HP Up by 0.2%, Dell Down by 2.2%

According to a report released by market research firm IDC on April 9th, the global traditional personal computer (PC) market, after two years of decline, showed signs of recovery in the first quarter of 2024. The shipments reached 59.8 million units, marking a year-on-year growth of 1.5%.

In terms of individual performance:

  • Lenovo experienced a significant increase of 7.8%.
  • HP saw a slight uptick of 0.2%.

Shipments of personal computers have started to recover in most regions, driving growth in the Americas as well as in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

However, the report notes that demand in the Chinese market remains sluggish for now. Nonetheless, with the gradual rollout of AI PCs this year and updates in commercial buyer demand, a recovery is anticipated for 2024.

Lenovo

Breaking down by brand, among the top five companies, Lenovo once again leads the pack with shipments of 13.7 million units, a 7.8% year-over-year increase from 12.7 million units in the first quarter of 2023. Its market share stands at 23.0%, up 1.4 percentage points from the same period last year.

HP

Following is HP, with shipments of 12.0 million units, a marginal 0.2% increase from the first quarter of 2023. Its market share is at 20.1%, down 0.3 percentage points from the same period last year.

Dell

Dell shipped 9.3 million units, a 2.2% decrease from the first quarter of 2023. Its market share is at 15.5%, down 0.6 percentage points from the same period last year.

Apple

Apple shipped 4.8 million units, a notable 14.6% increase from the first quarter of 2023. Its market share is at 8.1%, up 1.0 percentage point from the same period last year.

Acer and Asus

Both companies shipped roughly the same number of units, with a difference in share of less than 0.1%, thus tying for fifth place.
