The 2024 Sustainable Development Youth Scientist Award requires applicants to be under 45 years old (born after January 1, 1979). Applicants of any gender and nationality who have made significant innovative basic research contributions to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the field of natural sciences, or who have provided key technological and engineering support for the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the field of science and technology, and have achieved significant practical results, are eligible to apply (previous winners and those with conflicts of interest are not eligible to apply).

This year's award focuses on UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG13 (Climate Action), SDG14 (Life Below Water), SDG15 (Life on Land), and Cross-cutting SDG Areas (multiple SDG goals), totaling 8 areas.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 on July 31, 2024, Beijing time. Applications can be submitted through self-nomination or nomination by recommendation. This year, up to 5 winners will be selected, each receiving a prize of 1 million RMB that can be freely used. Additionally, winners will be recommended to join the World Association of Young Scientists, participate in high-level international conferences such as the World Young Scientist Summit and United Nations-related activities, receive priority support for research projects, and enjoy local talent benefits.

Candidates entering the final evaluation list will receive additional benefits besides the prize money.
