According to an announcement from the "China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center" WeChat official account on March 27th, the giant panda "Qingzi" passed away on March 23rd due to a rare case of intestinal obstruction complicated by intussusception, with her condition being extremely critical and rescue efforts proving ineffective.

Officials stated that since Qingzi fell ill on March 2nd, multiple consultations were held with hospitals including Huaxi Hospital, and on March 5th, a successful surgery was performed to address the intestinal obstruction. s_912ffda2fee34f3faeaa3f6a5fa2734c.png During the recovery process, there was a sudden occurrence of intestinal intussusception, leading to a secondary obstruction. Emergency surgery was performed on March 17th, during which the necrotic segment of the intestine was successfully removed. s_4b4cda541e374f0eb3dbc3e5dee59f8c.png

It's explained that intestinal intussusception in giant pandas is a more dangerous acute abdominal condition than intestinal obstruction. It involves a portion of the intestine and its mesentery telescoping into the lumen of an adjoining segment, leading to obstruction of the intestinal contents. This condition can easily result in intestinal perforation, intestinal necrosis, peritonitis, and even shock, with a very brief window for rescue.

"Qingzi" was the first giant panda case of intestinal obstruction complicated by intestinal intussusception discovered and experienced by the panda center in recent years.

Netizens expressed, "Another panda has gone to Panda Planet" and "May Panda Planet be free from illness and intestinal obstructions." s_42bea2f7717342f9ac66d51b9541264c.png
