Focus on Terminology: The 2nd National College Science Popularization Short Video Competition Kicks Off

On April 28th, the National College Science Popularization Short Video Competition was officially launched in Beijing.

The competition aims to encourage students to creatively present terms and concepts to the public, making knowledge in science, technology, society, and culture more easily understood by the general population. Focusing on scientific and technological terms, the competition aims to enhance public scientific literacy and promote the development of science popularization in China.

Participants in this competition mainly access standardized scientific and technological terms through the "Terminology Online" platform. Hosted by the National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology, the platform provides resources including a database of standardized terms published by the committee over the past 40 years, a cross-strait terminology comparison database, and a tool book database.

Expanding the scope of the competition, the contest topics are divided into nine major fields: life sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, national defense technology and military science, medicine, health and medical sciences, humanities and social sciences, interdisciplinary fields, engineering and technology, mathematics, information and computer sciences, totaling 34 disciplines. Participants can choose their preferred terms to create informative and accessible science popularization videos, explaining the meanings and applications of scientific terms to the audience.

During the press conference, speeches were delivered by Pei Yajun, Deputy Director of the National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology, Yang Gaixue, President of the China Educational Technology Association's Film and Television Media Professional Committee, Chen Mingxuan, Vice President of the China Educational Technology Association's Film and Television Media Professional Committee, Wang Jian, Secretary General of the China Educational Technology Association's Film and Television Media Professional Committee, and Ma Wei, Executive Director of the China Educational Technology Association's Film and Television Media Professional Committee.

The competition is organized by the National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology, undertaken by Beijing Digital Telecom Technology Development Co., Ltd., and co-organized by the China Educational Technology Association's Film and Television Media Professional Committee.
