On April 13th, EquaLeopard Motors will hold its Spring Launch Event on the 16th of this month, themed "Fanghua" (lit. "Fang Blossom"). Recently, the official teaser video has been unveiled.
The video showcases several cars, including the already-launched Leopard 5, the upcoming Leopard 8, and Leopard 3. The Leopard 8 undoubtedly serves as the brand's flagship, while the Leopard 3 represents the entry-level model, with the latter seemingly equipped with electronic side mirrors.
Interestingly, there's also an "Easter egg" in the video, with the first convertible sports car produced by BYD, the S8, making an appearance in the form of a poster.
The S8 is positioned as a hardtop convertible sports car, launched in July 2009, with an official price ranging from 165,800 to 206,800 CNY. It measures 4490/2020/1405mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2520mm, and falls into the compact car category.
Its standout feature lies in its convertible roof, utilizing a two-piece folding hardtop that can be fully retracted. It takes just 25 seconds to close or open, with the operation controlled electronically and powered hydraulically. Simply press the electric switch on the center console, and the system takes care of the rest.
In addition, the S8 was equipped with highly advanced features at the time, such as a keyless entry system, one-touch ignition, NAVI voice electronic navigation, in-car television, and rear-view camera. It was powered by a 2.0L engine, delivering a maximum output of 110 kilowatts, with both manual and automatic transmission options available.
Why would a sports car from 15 years ago appear in a promotional video for Formula Leopard? This raises intriguing questions. Considering the previous information, we know that Formula Leopard's new sports car will make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show, built on the DMO professional sports car platform. Therefore, there might be some heritage between this car and the S8.
