On April 19th, the joint action conference of the "Steel and Iron" Education Community in New Era Universities was held at Beijing University of Science and Technology.

Initiated by Beijing University of Science and Technology, Northeastern University, Central South University, and 50 other universities with industry backgrounds, along with 6 research institutes including China Iron & Steel Research Institute and China Metallurgical Science & Technology, as well as 19 key enterprises such as Ansteel Group, China Baowu Steel Group, China Minmetals Corporation, and Shougang Group, the "Steel and Iron Backbone" education community for universities in the new era has been established to implement the joint education action of "Steel and Iron Backbone."
Yue Yingjie, member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Education Working Committee, Wei Shiqiang, Director of the Ideological and Political Work Department of the Ministry of Education, Luo Tiejun, Vice President of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, Wu Guilong, Party Secretary of Beijing University of Science and Technology, Wang Hui, Vice President of Northeastern University, Li Jingsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central South University, Wang Weidong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Metallurgical Science & Technology Group, Nie Zhenyong, Minister of the Propaganda Department of Ansteel Group, and Ji Guozhong, Deputy Minister of the Organizational Department of the China Baowu Group, jointly unveiled the "Steel and Iron Backbone" education community for universities in the new era.
Yang Renshu, President of Beijing University of Science and Technology, introduced the establishment of the "Steel and Iron Backbone" education community and the first batch of member units. He stated that Beijing University of Science and Technology, as the initiating unit of the community, attaches great importance to the preparation of the establishment of the "Steel and Iron Backbone" education community, closely communicates with 23 other universities, research institutes, and enterprises as co-initiators, perfects the establishment and construction matters of the community, and has garnered extensive consensus for the convening of this conference. The guiding units of the community are the Ministry of Education, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, and the Education Working Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee. There are a total of 24 chairmen and vice-chairmen units, and the first batch of member units totals 75, including 50 universities with industry backgrounds, 6 research institutes, and 19 enterprise units.
Four representatives from member units of the community, including Zhang Yue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Beijing University of Science and Technology, Nie Zhenyong, Minister of the Propaganda Department of Ansteel Group, Li Jingsheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central South University, and Jiang Yuan, the most beautiful college counselor in China in 2023 and a counselor at Northeastern University, shared their themes around "inheriting the red gene, serving the construction of a powerful nation, and tempering the will of steel."
In his thematic sharing, Zhang Yue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor at Beijing University of Science and Technology, narrated the development history of China's iron and steel industry and the enduring spirit of steel, introduced a preliminary interpretation of the "steel spirit" in the new era, and shared vivid practices of generations of steelworkers who diligently studied and vowed to serve the country under the profound influence of the steel spirit. He hoped to further explore the connotation of the "steel spirit" and deepen its interpretation together with the member units of the community, jointly building the spiritual pillar shared by Chinese "steel people."
