Sun, Mar 17 2024 10:33 AM EST

Recently, the "National Engineering Research Center for Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technologies," jointly established by five institutions including the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, New Energy Power Co., Ltd., Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Zhongqing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and Guochuang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., was officially inaugurated. This initiative received approval from the Dalian Municipal Development and Reform Commission and was reported to the National Development and Reform Commission. The center underwent iterative updates and rebranding with the inclusion of our university as a new co-founder, possessing core technology patents in this field. Our university will be affiliated with the center, linking with the Key Laboratory of Materials Electrochemistry Process and Technology in Beijing. 65f6bd13e4b03b5da6d0b594.png The National Engineering Research Center for Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technologies (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") is established with the support of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Dalian Municipal Government, in accordance with the requirements of the "Administrative Measures for National Engineering Research Centers" and "Inclusion in the New Sequence Management of National Engineering Research Centers". The aim is to construct an innovative chain and industrial chain of hydrogen energy and fuel cells with independent intellectual property rights, to solve the key common technologies and bottlenecks that hinder the development of China's hydrogen fuel cell industry compared to developed countries, and to drive industrial upgrading.

Following the rebranding, the Center will be jointly led by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Dalian Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will be operated under the director responsibility system, with each co-construction unit appointing one leading expert as a deputy director. Additionally, a scientific and technological committee will be established, composed of renowned experts in the field of fuel cells and hydrogen technologies in China.

The Center will adhere to the principles of "resource sharing, innovation, and expansion". It will establish multiple technology platforms, including the Fuel Cell System Science and Engineering Research Platform, the Green Hydrogen Production Technology Platform, the High-efficiency Hydrogen Production Technology Research Platform for Fossil Energy, the Commercialization and Application Science and Technology Innovation Platform for Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Technologies, and the Distributed Hydrogen Source and Low-carbon Application Technology R&D Platform, gradually shaping it into an innovation-driven technology platform for efficient empowerment of the "dual carbon" strategy. 65f6bd1ee4b03b5da6d0b596.jpg Our university, as one of the key collaborative institutions, has established a high-level talent team led by academicians and recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation in the fields of fuel cells and hydrogen energy research. We have undertaken a series of major national and provincial scientific research projects. In the future establishment of the National Engineering Research Center, our university will continue to focus on key common technologies and bottleneck issues in the fuel cell and hydrogen energy industries. We will further leverage our expertise in fuel cells, water electrolysis, hydrogen storage, and other related areas. Through interdisciplinary collaborative innovation among academia, industry, and research, we aim to accelerate the transformation of research outcomes and enhance our capabilities for commercialization. We are actively promoting the industrialization of fuel cells and hydrogen technologies.
