Recently, the Ministry of Education released the "Announcement on the Results of the 2023 Undergraduate Major Filing and Approval for General Higher Education Institutions" (No. [2024]6). East China University of Science and Technology's "Electronic Information Materials" major, a non-catalog major, was approved and will begin enrolling its first cohort in September 2024.

According to The Paper (www.thepaper.cn), the major will cultivate high-level engineering and technical personnel specialized in the research, development, design, manufacturing, and management of electronic information materials. The establishment of this new major is based on the university's advantages in first-class disciplines such as chemistry, chemical engineering and technology, and materials science and engineering, as well as the strong correlation between these disciplines and electronic information materials.

The university has listed Electronic Information Materials as one of its key development majors and will strongly support its growth. Specific measures include:

  • Increasing investment in teaching funds
  • Strengthening talent recruitment and implementing a special talent recruitment system
  • Reforming core professional courses and engineering practice courses
  • Enhancing the construction of engineering practice bases

East China University of Science and Technology introduced that it will integrate its advantageous disciplines, construct a professional system that cultivates talents who possess both a solid foundation in materials knowledge and expertise in the preparation, processing, development, and application of electronic information materials and devices.

At the same time, the major will cooperate with key upstream and downstream units in the industry chain, focusing on the shortage of professional talents and technical bottlenecks in electronic information materials. Through the integration of industry and education as well as science and education, it will focus on areas such as electronic information materials and packaging materials. The major will establish a new path for cultivating innovative "1+N" collaborative training talents from undergraduate to doctoral levels, forming a closed-loop model of "industry demand - joint training - employment support." This model aims to promote technological innovation in electronic information materials and materials science, connect high-level talent cultivation with the industry chain, address the bottleneck issue of developing new productivity, and explore the deep integration of talent and innovation chains.
