Shanghai Telecom has launched China's first "Ten Gigabit Cloud Broadband Demonstration Community" in Baolitahui Community, Yangpu District. The commercial launch of Ten Gigabit cloud broadband products is expected within the year.

50GPON, a key technology for all-optical ten gigabit networks, has been defined by the ITU-T as the next-generation PON standard succeeding 10GPON. With its high bandwidth, low latency, and application-level flexible slicing, it has been recognized by mainstream global operators as the access technology for ten gigabit broadband.

Live demonstrations showed that downloading an 8K movie lasting 2 hours (about 90 GB) would take 12 minutes with gigabit broadband but only 72 seconds with ten gigabit cloud broadband.

Shanghai Telecom noted that customers in the demonstration community who purchase the 5G Home 399 and above plans will be able to experience ten gigabit cloud broadband for free. They can enjoy ten gigabit cloud broadband with downlink and uplink speeds of 10,000Mbps without any increase in their current plan fees.

Shanghai aims to build a "dual ten-gigabit city" marked by 5GA and ten-gigabit optical networks by the end of 2026, becoming one of the cities with the fastest network speeds, most comprehensive coverage, and lowest latency in the world. s_2f91be1b86d448c782cbfb4639538b10.png
