At the conference, Xu Zhijun, Vice Chairman and Rotating Chairman of Huawei, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Path to Comprehensive Intelligence."
Subsequently, Xu Zhijun addressed the much-anticipated plans and progress regarding HarmonyOS during his speech.According to him, building a native application ecosystem for HarmonyOS is Huawei's most crucial focus for 2024. While the previous iterations of HarmonyOS primarily focused on adapting to various end devices in the southbound direction, the applications in the northbound direction still largely relied on the shared Android ecosystem. Huawei aims to fully migrate 5,000 applications, which account for over 99% of smartphone usage time in the Chinese market, to the HarmonyOS native operating system within one year in 2024, thereby truly unifying the operating system and application ecosystem.
And he also stated that out of over 5,000 applications, more than 4,000 have already outlined migration plans, with less than 1,000 applications still in discussions. The migration effort is immense and has garnered widespread support from the entire industry and application developers.
When all 5,000 of these apps, along with thousands more, are migrated from the Android ecosystem to the HarmonyOS, the HarmonyOS will truly be complete and become the third global mobile operating system, alongside Apple's iOS and Google's Android.
Huawei will focus on building the HarmonyOS app ecosystem in the Chinese market and gradually expand to other countries, eventually reaching a global audience.
In addition to the HarmonyOS ecosystem, Huawei will also develop the Kunpeng ecosystem and the Ascend ecosystem.
In other words, around 80% of HarmonyOS app migration has already been completed. Once the migration is fully completed, HarmonyOS will truly become the third operating system after iOS and Android, and Huawei will then promote it overseas.
According to reports from Sina Technology, Xu Zhijun revealed that in addition to key applications, another 5,000 applications need to be added to the native HarmonyOS, with plans to increase this number to 1 million in the future. "Whether these applications can be added and whether they can provide a better consumer experience is crucial," he said. He also called on all application developers and owners nationwide to join the HarmonyOS native application ecosystem as soon as possible.
And he also indicated that Huawei's goal is to launch the "pure-blood HarmonyOS" when the Mate 70 series is released later this year.
