In an incident in Wenling, Zhejiang Province, a small delivery van, left unattended without its handbrake engaged, went into "autopilot" mode, paying no heed to the vehicles and pedestrians passing by, ultimately colliding with an e-scooter.
Reportedly, on April 1st, at noon, a delivery driver named Li, driving a small van to deliver packages, parked the vehicle at an intersection and hastily stepped out without properly engaging the handbrake.
A minute later, this unmanned van began to slowly glide into the two-way lane, disrupting the normal flow of traffic behind it.
Subsequently, the van continued its glide into the opposite lane. A driver of a small sedan attempted an emergency maneuver upon noticing the van, but due to the proximity, the rear of the sedan was lightly brushed by the van.
At the same time, Ms. Lin was riding an electric bicycle from the opposite lane. She noticed the abnormal movement of the van and attempted to stop in front of it to avoid danger. Unfortunately, the van failed to stop and collided directly with the electric bicycle, causing Ms. Lin to fall and sustain injuries. She was urgently transported to the hospital, where diagnostic results revealed damage to the knee joint and multiple soft tissue abrasions.
Shortly after the accident, Mr. Li heard about the incident and immediately rushed to the scene, where he reported it to the police. According to the investigation and determination of responsibility by the traffic police department, the van driver, Mr. Li, bore full responsibility for the accident.
