On May 28th, it was reported by the media that the first rainfall radar at the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub was successfully completed and put into use on the 21st, significantly enhancing the hub's rainwater monitoring and forecasting capabilities. It is expected that by the flood season of 2025, the rainfall radar system of the Datongxia project will be fully constructed and operational.
As a key control project in the Pearl River Basin, the geographical location and strategic importance of the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub cannot be ignored. The Hongshui River Qianjiang Station, Liujian Liuzhou Station, and Luoqing River Duoting Station serve as the inlet control stations of Datongxia, located in the center of heavy rainfall in Liujian, with complex and varied terrain, rapid flood accumulation, and a complex evolution process. Moreover, these areas have dense population and facilities, making it particularly important to establish a rainfall radar system covering this region.
At the Rainfall Radar Application Research Expert Consultation held on May 23rd, an expert group composed of authorities such as the Ministry of Water Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hong Kong, Macao, and the Pearl River Commission highly praised the achievements of the first rainfall radar construction at the Datongxia project, recognizing its rational site planning and layout with significant effectiveness.
During the construction process, Datongxia Company adopted internationally advanced phased array rainfall radar technology and carefully planned key steps such as tower construction, radar equipment procurement, and application of results, achieving an efficient construction management model, thereby effectively shortening the construction period.
According to the established plan, by the flood season of 2025, the rainfall radar system of the Datongxia project will be fully operational, greatly enhancing the rainwater monitoring and forecasting capabilities of the Datongxia Water Conservancy Hub. This will provide solid support for the "four forecasting" capabilities of the digital twin Datongxia, ensuring the scientific and precise scheduling of the Datongxia project and effectively safeguarding flood safety in the hub and upstream and downstream areas.
