On May 17th to 18th, the 25th Public Science Day event of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics was held at the Xinghai Park. The theme of this event was "Seventy-Five Years, Pursuing Scientific Dreams," with tens of thousands of the public visiting the institute to take part in this "Journey of Scientific Exploration." 66486b66e4b03b5da6d0efce.png Event Scene. 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics. This event selects 16 milestone technological achievements from the institute's seventy-five years of scientific progress, forming a "Road of Scientific Exploration." China's first aviation kerosene, the "rebirth" of coal, the brightest extreme ultraviolet light... Each achievement "shines" at the exhibition site. Every visitor will receive a "Scientific Exploration Passport" to collect stamps at each exhibition point, deeply experiencing the glorious 75 years of walking hand in hand with the nation at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics. 66486cd6e4b03b5da6d0efd4.png "Punching the Passport" at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics

"What is science?" With this question posed, both the "big friends" and the children eagerly raised their hands to speak. At the lecture on "What is Science," Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Researcher Liang Bo, explained in simple and understandable language the different meanings of science at both a broad and narrow level to the audience. This year's Public Science Day featured a "Scientist Face to Face" event using a "TED" talk format, where speakers focused on a single theme, engagingly leading the audience into the world of science, allowing for live questions from the audience, truly achieving a "zero-distance" exchange with scientists. In addition to the above presentation, Deputy Director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Researcher Wang Feng, gave a talk on "Pushing the Limits of Science," while Academician Li Can, Director of the Solar Energy Research Department at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, presented on "Liquid Sunshine," and Researcher Huang Yanqiang, Deputy Director of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, delivered a speech titled "Carbon Dioxide Conversion: Aiding in Building a 'Space Home'." 66486b8ae4b03b5da6d0efd0.png Report from the scene. In addition, Dalian Chemical Institute has carefully prepared the "Light and Shadow Theater." The well-received musical "The Book of Energy" from last year is back for a limited time. This original children's science education stage play with an energy theme features performers transforming into "energy elves," advocating for energy conservation, environmental protection, and a low-carbon lifestyle. For the first time, the theater also screened the microfilm "Technology Backbone: Zhang Dayu" to the public. It tells the story of Mr. Zhang Dayu during the early days of the People's Republic of China, facing the challenge of scarce petroleum resources. Guided by the needs of the nation, he established a research base for petroleum and coal chemical studies in China, showcasing a story of unconventional thinking and talent utilization. Through this format, the film vividly portrays the stories behind the scientists, presenting the spirit of the older generation of scientists in a more three-dimensional and vivid manner to the public. 66486a6ce4b03b5da6d0efca.png Stage Play: Images from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics

In the "Voice of Science" segment, six young scientists presented popular science reports. Can wine be made with black coal balls? Can femtosecond lasers capture "movies" of molecules? A series of "hardcore" popular science presentations led the audience to listen to the "voice" of science and experience how science is all around us.

In addition to the above activities, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics also distributed two thousand copies of the "Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics version" of the periodic table to the public for free for the first time. Not only does it provide detailed basic information about various elements, but it also vividly and interestingly presents the unique properties of different elements visually, making it easy for children to understand.

Through this "scientific exploration journey," many science-loving "young friends" had the opportunity to interact closely with scientists, leaving behind countless precious memories. This activity has now become an important channel for the public to enter the institute, understand cutting-edge research, explore the mysteries of science and technology, and experience the charm of science.
