Following the announcement of Akira Toriyama's passing, the Chief Executive Officer of the Japanese game developer CyberConnect2, Yoann Matsuyama, made a statement declaring that the company will temporarily cease operations for one day to honor the memory of Mr. Toriyama.
The statement reads:
"While the news of Akira Toriyama's passing has left me shocked, I've always lived by the motto of 'never give up,' so I've tried to channel my grief into motivation to work even harder. But this time, I just can't.
Earlier, during an online meeting with another team, I broke down in tears, too overwhelmed with sadness to continue. As a company entrusted with creating games based on 'Dragon Ball,' CC2 will be closing its doors for the day in mourning. All our staff are encouraged to go home. It's okay to grieve when you're sad. If possible, let's come back together starting next Monday. Our heartfelt prayers go out to Mr. Akira Toriyama for eternal rest."
CC2 is best known for its "Tales of" series and has also developed fighting games based on the "Naruto" series and "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot," among other titles.
Today, Akira Toriyama's studio released an announcement stating that he passed away on March 1, 2024, due to acute subdural hematoma, at the age of 68.
Following the announcement, Eiichiro Oda, the author of "One Piece," Masashi Kishimoto, the author of "Naruto," and Takehiko Inoue, the author of "Slam Dunk," paid tribute to Akira Toriyama.
