CPCA: March Passenger Vehicle Retail Sales Reach 1.699 Million, with New Energy Vehicles Accounting for 41%

On April 3rd, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released the sales data for the passenger vehicle market in March.

According to the data, from March 1st to 31st, the retail sales of passenger vehicles reached 1.699 million units, marking a year-on-year increase of 7% and a month-on-month surge of 54%. Cumulatively for the year, retail sales amounted to 4.841 million units, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 13%.

Breaking it down, passenger car retail sales stood at 1.699 million units, up 7% year-on-year and soaring 54% month-on-month. Year-to-date, cumulative retail sales reached 4.841 million units, up 13% year-on-year. On the other hand, nationwide passenger car wholesale figures reached 2.165 million units, a 9% year-on-year increase and a whopping 66% month-on-month surge. Cumulatively for the year, wholesale figures reached 5.565 million units, marking a 10% year-on-year growth.

In the realm of new energy vehicles, retail sales hit 698,000 units, marking a substantial 28% year-on-year increase and an impressive 80% month-on-month surge. New energy vehicles accounted for 41% of total sales. Cumulatively for the year, retail sales amounted to 1.758 million units, reflecting a significant 34% year-on-year growth. As for nationwide wholesale of new energy vehicles by passenger car manufacturers, figures stood at 819,000 units, marking a notable 33% year-on-year increase and an impressive 83% month-on-month surge.
