According to reports on March 13th, in the fields of chipsets, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence (AI), the average technological gap between China and the United States stands at a mere 0.8 years, showcasing rapid progress and unexpectedly strong capabilities.

As of 2022, the United States leads with the highest average level of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at 100%. China closely follows at 92.2% of the US level, ranking third and trailing behind the US by only 0.8 years in terms of average technological advancement.

Europe ranks second with 93.8%, trailing the US by 0.7 years. Across 18 key domains, including semiconductors and chips, the U.S. dominates in 17 areas. However, in quantum information communication, Europe is rated as having top-notch technology, taking the lead.

In this field, Europe holds the first position with a score of 100%, followed closely by the U.S. at 99.6%, and China at 99.1%, showing a narrow gap between Europe and the U.S.

Regarding big data, South Korea's technological prowess stands at 89.2% compared to the U.S., marking a 1.2 percentage point increase from the previous year and securing the third spot. In the realm of autonomous driving, South Korea's level has surged 1.0 percentage points ahead of the U.S., reaching 89.4%. However, South Korea's mobile communication technology has maintained its third position for three consecutive years at 97.8%, experiencing a slight decline of 0.3 percentage points in 2022, to 97.5%, trailing behind the U.S. and China (98.5%).

In the field of artificial intelligence, leveraging the capabilities of leading AI companies such as Google and OpenAI, the U.S. has expanded its leading edge over other countries. South Korea's AI technology level has seen a slight decrease from 89.1% in 2021 to 88.9% in 2022, but with the smallest decline compared to other countries.
